Uniquetunes

[Please welcome the newest Knobtweakers contributor, Dr Rama, from Provenzamusic.com. - Eric]

Uniquetunes is my latest discovery in the large netlabel universe. Oscillating between downtempo, triphop, funk and jazz, this band shines from Russia to the whole internet.

The release, which is in the "Red Netlabel" catalogue (red006), is presented as a sampler, putting together the most representative tracks of the band, in the form of remixes. To consider three tracks, the Uniquetunes remix of the I-Laska track "Harrima & need Mo Fire" is a nice collage of various samples, "Slow Down (Remix)", and "Death by Our Airlines (Vox D Remix)" which has a very mellow saxo and piano, combined with rythmic strings and rocky drums.

Flux and Vega Believe

Gabriela Vega and José Rendón collaborate under the name Flux & Vega. Their Believe EP was released on the Mexican Discos Konfort, and it's packed with solid tracks in a variety of genres, including garage. That's right. I present for your consideration, Mexican garage. Who's ready for the two-step clave? Actually, the sound is very familiar, and borrows heavily from conventional house and two step tradition.

Morgan Page and Shine

Morgan Page photo

Regular readers know that Morgan Page is among my favorite remixers. His production is very clean, crisp, and full of energy. Layers of hihats, cymbals, shakers, bleeps, and sound effects bounce effortlessly on a strong bass foundation. He wields breakdowns, subsample edits, cuts, and dynamics the way a ninja wields a sword, and the results devastate dancefloors. I've featured him several times now, and his tracks have attracted tens of thousands of downloads, making him one of the most popular attractions on Knobtweakers. He recently did a pair of remixes for Shine, including a remarkable downtempo mix of "Ashbury".
