SM Pro Audio PR4V 4-Channel Microphone Preamp

SM Pro Audio PR4V 4-Channel Microphone Preamp$The market size for digital audio interfaces and computer based digital editing has increased in a massive way. With systems available at very low prices, more and more users are utilizing this technology. One of the main problems with many of these systems is the input stage only consisting of unbalanced line inputs or very low (or no mic pre) gain structure for the balanced input stage and the unavailability of Phantom power.

Review of SM Pro Audio PR4V 4-Channel Microphone Preamp

Feature:
Standard features inlude XLR balanced inputs, and 48V phantom power. This unit has unbalanced outputs though, but if you are just making short-runs (to your DAW), you should be comfortable using the PR-4.

Quality:
Very sturdy case. All metal construction. Could use a set of rack-mount "ears" to make it a road unit.

Value:
For the money, every budding engineer should have one.

Desirability:
It's not sexy at all, and it shouldn't be. It's basic audio gear. But it does have a pretty green light for power indication, and a green "clip" led on each channel.

Sound:
Sounds fairly transparent, and input sensitivity was consistant throughout the 4 balanced XLR inputs.

Support:
Have not had to contact SMPro Audio for support.

Overall:
I love this. I think I need 2. If you think 4 is to small, try a PR-8
