Feature:
Slightly underpowered for live shows, it works best in rehersal and very small venues. But then I wouldn't really expect anything else from a combo amp, most live shows I play with seperate amp and cabs. The XLR output is very impressive for an amp as low a price as this. I've never tried recording with it, but I'd certainly be tempted to try. CD inputs are a joke and shouldn't even be on the amp. Tweater is a good inclusion but also makes the amplifier hiss more pronounced.
Quality:
Amp looks great from all angles. Tilt back cabinet is kinda cheesy, but keeps people from setting anything on top of it. Very heavy construction, a building could collapse on it and it would come out without a scratch.
Value:
Has great features for a low to mid price combo amp.
Desirability:
Having this set up on stage just makes you look good. Hiding all the controls and inputs on the upper rear leaves the front undisturbed for a nice clean look
Sound:
Sound quality is great, with widely adjustable EQ. The five position quick selector is great if you want to shift EQ between songs without much fuss, I use it switching between jazz and rock sounds. With the 15 speaker, rock is more suited to the amp, but it does include a tweeter to get nice response in the upper registers.
Overall:
This amp will remain my practice amp and a great backup for live shows for a very long time. I may even try recording with it in the future.

the sound is amazing, very tight and reponsive. Only thing is i could use a little more low end but it will work for becuase i am just the occasional small gig and jam guy. 220 watts is about right for me, maybe i could use a little more head room. Overall Sound kicks major ass.

The only problem is the skin. It scratches and becomes unsightly after a few moves. That is merely a cosmetic problem. The rig is a beast and can take some abuse. The horn is very nice and it has 1/4 or speakon connectors.
Quality:
Simply put, this is one HIGH QUALITY cabinet. Solid construction and I have had ZERO problems with this cabinet over the last year and a half.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! This is a premium cabinet and delivers a truly exceptional tone.

I will purchase another one shortly. It is a beautiful cabinet and competes with everyone in the band. My bandmates affectionately refer to it as BEASTHOVEN

Ampeg has this one right - a PRO rig. Combined with the SVT 4 Pro Head, I can get any tone I want. This thing handles 5,6 and 7 string basses with ease. I can get the Classic SVT sound or the Modern BASS sound. This rig is flat out versatile and LOUD. I simply can't say enough good things about this cabinet.

Reverb is beautifully rich, when it works. I've had serious problems with the spring getting knocked outta whack. It's sporadic but madening. Truthfully this is a bit of a delicate amp. Things seem to shake loose? It comes with a channel/reverb footswitch that also works sometimes. I've had this problem with Fender footswitches too.

Totally different. You dont see too many players with Ampeg 6-string amps. And this thing is f'ing georgeous. Silver face, blue old-school vinyl! shweet. Even the knobs are cool. Put this thing next to your co-guitarists Marshall and you will like a stud.
Sound:
I've owned this amp for 5 years. For the money, it's a great value by tube amp standards and it has a unique character and pretty if one-dimensional crystalline tone. Great for clean Jimi style lead/rhythm. Nice dirty overdrive. This is by no means an amp for serious crunch or those players who require a thick bottom end. But for clear punchy classic toned it's a great alternative to much more expensive tube rigs.

Love the tremolo and it has sweet reverb. Gives some excellent distance to your guitar, especially for solo/lead material. Knobs are big and easy to turn. I recommend purchasing a footswitch.
Quality:
Sturdy. Travels well. Tubes are well protected in cage and all parts are tightened down. It's a tough little box.
Desirability:
Very classy. Has a vintage look. And love those big knobs on top. It truth, it's looks are a major selling feature.
Sound:
Good clean sound with excellent reverb. Requires pedals for distortion, but even those sound good. Do not recommend this amp for live sound at all. It simply does not have that kind of power, but as a recording/at home practice amp it excels. That said, I bought mine for $350 and would have more reservations should I have paid the full price. If you play a humbucker (SG, Les Paul) this amp tends to crap out pretty quick (say around 3). With a strat single-coil you get a little more, but the power is lacking if you're looking to jam or play live. My sound score is based solely on my purpose of recording with it.

Ultimately, this amp is ideal for recording and home playing. I had hoped to play live with it, but it simply can't cut it in terms of volume, so I had to purchase another with more wattage. I will always record with it. The clean and tremolo are unbeatable and provide much pleasure.

Good features, especially the on the back which allow jacking into house systems & recording equipment. The Frequency switch seems to make little difference in sound quality. But, I'm still experimenting with various sound settings.

After about 50 hours of use, I had to get a tube replaced. But, it may have been due to bumbing, as well as the one bad tube from the factory that day. Since then (about 150 hours & several months), I've had no problems.
Value:
When I first got my Ampeg, I thought This sounds great!. Everytime I play it,I hear from more & more converts saying the same. And the price has gone up on it since I bought it about a year ago.
Desirability:
My SVT-3 Pro head, along with my BXT-410HL-4 cabinet, give me a great, unbeatable sound.
Sound:
After one year I get a very clean sound with almost limitless sound quality options. Although with all of its options, you can get hiss by turning up the high frequencies too much. Best if you balance out the EQ with the guitar tones and cabinet adjustments.

I have not dealt with Ampeg directly, only the local retailer that sold me the equipment. And after some initial who has the amp? mixups, they were pretty good.

Has multipal input jacks on rear as well as adjustable horn pad. Hartke cab had one plastic 1/4 inch input jack. Cheap.

90 lbs?? You can feel, see, hear......the quality. Hartke should take a few lessons from Ampeg. Built in the USA like a tank!

Expensive, but well worth it. Ampeg is the best.

Plain jane look about it, with that Ampeg badge. Rattles the walls.
Sound:
I replaced defective Hartke VX 8-10 bottom with it. This Ampeg 4-10 cabinet weighs 90 lbs compared to hartke 8-10 bottom that weighted 140lbs. Talk about Ampeg quality!! The Hartke cabinet fell apart, literatly. Internal bracing broke loose on two different cabinets. Must be that Made in China craftsmanship.

Dealt with the company for information only. Very helpful. Hartke lack of customer service dept. was another animal in itself. Stay away from them.

The cab seems to adjust to your sound very well. Nice warm bluesy tone, sweet slap tone and takes tube overdrive well. Killer lows in a live setting and the horn control knob is great and solves the mudd problem when the lows are cranked!!
Overall:
Sweet cab!! This will be a staple in my rig. If anything, I would add a sub and 2 tens just for the edge in a large open setting.

Awesome sound, temporarily using it with a small fender cabinet w/4-10's and this amp really enhances the sound quality. Quick response and great control. Features abound and this really makes live bass sound like recoreded base. Even the rest of the band leaned toward my gear at the first gig, and said... That thing really kicks. A tip with this amp... play with the adjustments, and turn the bass guitar all the way up to allow full instrument tone, adjust the Gain until the limit light blinks, then adjust final volume with the Master. This made a major difference with my Rudy Sarzo Bass gutar.

Just what you need. Not a lot of knobs an buttons to press. Easy to set up.
Quality:
No more point to point wiring, but other than that it's a solid piece of equitment. I have a early 70's v4, and that thing is heavy. The classic series are not as heavy (smaller transformers I guess), and they don't break up quite as fast too.
Value:
If you want good tube sound, with out breaking your back moving it around, this is a good choice.
Desirability:
It's the classic ampeg look, only black. Not bad, but I do like the vintage look better.

A nice, deep, round, and full tube sound. I use a 4 ohm 4-10 hlf, an 8 ohm 2-10 ampeg cabinet and an Eden 1-15 8 ohm cab.The v4 sounds great using any of my cabinets. I play passive basses throught it, and they all sound great. Crank up ther gain and master if you like that tube disstortion sound. I have a friend that has an Ashdown MAG 500 head, and he loves the tone from the v-4b. I think he's looking to get one too.

This thing does what it says it does! It clears up your sound and gives your bass rig a good solid tone. I only use this pedal with one of my basses.(the cheaper one) I haven't tried it direct into the board, but I'm sure it would do the trick in a pinch. The only complaint that I have is that when you have the active switch engaged, it looses half it volume. So to compensate for this...I just crank my compressor a little more. Feature:
Slightly underpowered for live shows, it works best in rehersal and very small venues. But then I wouldn't really expect anything else from a combo amp, most live shows I play with seperate amp and cabs. The XLR output is very impressive for an amp as low a price as this. I've never tried recording with it, but I'd certainly be tempted to try. CD inputs are a joke and shouldn't even be on the amp. Tweater is a good inclusion but also makes the amplifier hiss more pronounced.

Amp looks great from all angles. Tilt back cabinet is kinda cheesy, but keeps people from setting anything on top of it. Very heavy construction, a building could collapse on it and it would come out without a scratch.

Sound quality is great, with widely adjustable EQ. The five position quick selector is great if you want to shift EQ between songs without much fuss, I use it switching between jazz and rock sounds. With the 15 speaker, rock is more suited to the amp, but it does include a tweeter to get nice response in the upper registers.
Overall:
This amp will remain my practice amp and a great backup for live shows for a very long time. I may even try recording with it in the future.

The only problem is the skin. It scratches and becomes unsightly after a few moves. That is merely a cosmetic problem. The rig is a beast and can take some abuse. The horn is very nice and it has 1/4 or speakon connectors.

Reverb is beautifully rich, when it works. I've had serious problems with the spring getting knocked outta whack. It's sporadic but madening. Truthfully this is a bit of a delicate amp. Things seem to shake loose? It comes with a channel/reverb footswitch that also works sometimes. I've had this problem with Fender footswitches too.

I've owned this amp for 5 years. For the money, it's a great value by tube amp standards and it has a unique character and pretty if one-dimensional crystalline tone. Great for clean Jimi style lead/rhythm. Nice dirty overdrive. This is by no means an amp for serious crunch or those players who require a thick bottom end. But for clear punchy classic toned it's a great alternative to much more expensive tube rigs.

Love the tremolo and it has sweet reverb. Gives some excellent distance to your guitar, especially for solo/lead material. Knobs are big and easy to turn. I recommend purchasing a footswitch.

Sturdy. Travels well. Tubes are well protected in cage and all parts are tightened down. It's a tough little box.
Desirability:
Very classy. Has a vintage look. And love those big knobs on top. It truth, it's looks are a major selling feature.
Sound:
Good clean sound with excellent reverb. Requires pedals for distortion, but even those sound good. Do not recommend this amp for live sound at all. It simply does not have that kind of power, but as a recording/at home practice amp it excels. That said, I bought mine for $350 and would have more reservations should I have paid the full price. If you play a humbucker (SG, Les Paul) this amp tends to crap out pretty quick (say around 3). With a strat single-coil you get a little more, but the power is lacking if you're looking to jam or play live. My sound score is based solely on my purpose of recording with it.

Awesome sound, temporarily using it with a small fender cabinet w/4-10's and this amp really enhances the sound quality. Quick response and great control. Features abound and this really makes live bass sound like recoreded base. Even the rest of the band leaned toward my gear at the first gig, and said... That thing really kicks. A tip with this amp... play with the adjustments, and turn the bass guitar all the way up to allow full instrument tone, adjust the Gain until the limit light blinks, then adjust final volume with the Master. This made a major difference with my Rudy Sarzo Bass gutar.

This is the thing that has defined my playing. the sonic quality is unbelievible. I have played many other rigs in my time but nothing has compaired to the SVT. things have come close but they always end up leaving a little to be desired. the only thing I can think might be better is the aquilar 680 and you still need a power amp with that and it costs just as much.

Just what you need. Not a lot of knobs an buttons to press. Easy to set up.
Quality:
No more point to point wiring, but other than that it's a solid piece of equitment. I have a early 70's v4, and that thing is heavy. The classic series are not as heavy (smaller transformers I guess), and they don't break up quite as fast too.
Value:
If you want good tube sound, with out breaking your back moving it around, this is a good choice.
Desirability:
It's the classic ampeg look, only black. Not bad, but I do like the vintage look better.
Sound:
A nice, deep, round, and full tube sound. I use a 4 ohm 4-10 hlf, an 8 ohm 2-10 ampeg cabinet and an Eden 1-15 8 ohm cab.The v4 sounds great using any of my cabinets. I play passive basses throught it, and they all sound great. Crank up ther gain and master if you like that tube disstortion sound. I have a friend that has an Ashdown MAG 500 head, and he loves the tone from the v-4b. I think he's looking to get one too.

This thing does what it says it does! It clears up your sound and gives your bass rig a good solid tone. I only use this pedal with one of my basses.(the cheaper one) I haven't tried it direct into the board, but I'm sure it would do the trick in a pinch. The only complaint that I have is that when you have the active switch engaged, it looses half it volume. So to compensate for this...I just crank my compressor a little more. Over all...not a bad investment!

I had my previous 104 for several years without any problems. My favorite collaborator has one that we used in a band 20 years ago. No problems.....This device does everything the manufacturer says it will.

I use in a home studio between a dbx DDP and a tascam cr-rw700, this is a must have device for home studio owners. Generally in lieu of a tube EQ in the final signal chain, it works equally well as a mastering tool or in individual track recording. Essential for giving life to acoustic rythems and synth based horn solos. If you could have only one tool, this would be it. I purchased it to replace my older model 104.

now i know where the money went. i paid $100 more and got an amazing amount of desktop real estate. i can have logic open with stylus, atmospheres, sculpture, and a few waves plugins.....and thats on one screen.....the other can have the reason rack AND the sequencer open on it.

these things look great on their own but having 2 of them together is rediculous. they look amazing and line up perfectly. you really dont even pick up on the break between them when moving everything around between screens.
