I love german products, and this is no exception. Neumann is a pro company...all the big boys use them. Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Jay Z, and a million others sing through neumann's all the time.
Value:
Its a U87 in a smaller shell...so neumann tells me. I have even compared, and they are extremely similar.
Desirability:
I just cherish the TLM 103. Its a dream come true kinda mic. My vocalist sounds so much better through it. I can just hear the soul right in the singer through the tlm 103.
Sound:
Its a Neumann, what do you expect. The midrange on this beauty is wonderful. I love the airy high too. Its sound just like a U87...yet its even better with its low noise spec.

It is hopelessly uneven; some notes jump out at you, others are much too dull. The entire midrange is overpowering, the bass much too weak, etc., etc.

Customer support....not too good. Do some research on other products that can do the same as these. Don't believe the HYPE about their product, they're just like any other. I have ran into some problems trying to use them in some sequencers as VST'S. Also BIG CPU HOGGERS ALL instruments, better have a good machine to run all intruments all at once.

The features are so numerous and so far beyond what I've even touched. A tweakhead's dream come true if that's your cup of tea. The array of presets for synths and effects blows away everything else I've tried so far. Many patches outperform some of my $2000 outboard synths, and some of the effects like Banan Electrique are simply monstrous!!! Run your synths or guitars through that and you are in industrial-tech-metal outer space!!! My outboard $3000 tc electronic fireworx effects processor is collecting dust because of the instant convenience, kick-ass quality, and VST automation capaibility of native plugins. I'm hooked.

It looks good, it sounds good, its efficient, and it includes the most well rounded set of presets of any VSTI that Ive experienced. The presets cover a broad spectrum; basically everything that the full synth can do well. Each preset can be tweaked and resaved as a new patch.

These are the best bargains in the softsynth market.

The GUI is very professional looking. More importantly, the whole instrument is geared toward efficiency, including the preset selection tool.

Very nice sound. Not in your face tone, a little farther away tone. It took a little time to get used to the tone controls, to dial in the sound I wanted, but I was finally able to get a nice deep and rich tone.

I use it on an amp stand facing me like a monitor. With tweaking I was able to dial up as much bass as the 12 version. These 2 8 speakers sound amazing for their size.

I own a few synths, Triton, Ms2000, Mc505, Sh101 and all of the Electribes. For the price and ease the Nord sounds the best. I also want to mention that if you do buy it make sure you get an fx box because none of the nords have them built in but even without one on the unit it still sounds louder and more VS than the MS2000.

I just got the NS88 2 weeks ago. I've been a loyal NE2 player since they came out. Generally I use a CX3 or an XK3 for my organ since they just feel better (more Jimmy McGriff for my taste than the NE2). Amp is either Leslie 21 system, or KBR3d. As for the NS88, I am on the fence and need to spend more time with it. First, it is quite different from the NE2. Patch organization, layers, splits and morphs. I guess b/c it does more, the increased complexity is a necessary corollary. Biggest problem is with the Accoustic Pianos. This is why I got it. But they seem thin, and harsh in the mid and upper registers. I can't compare them to any known reference. For example, we all know Roland is big and warm. Yamaha is more crystalline and subtle. But these samples on the NE88 are simply perplexing. I am ok with the weighted action. yes, it is way too light, but it is still 'hammer' action. I think it is a fine answer for a board that plays clav, rhodes, wurly, B3, synth, and accoustic piano.... I think the synth section is just great. no more or less than you need if synth is not a big part of your sound--but don't kid yourself, it is a strong section with deep possibilities. So, if anyone has any thoughts on the accoustic piano issues with the NS88, pls feel free to share your stream of consciousness. Bill

It's well thought out but be warned that if your looking to express yourself with any sort of rhythm, please make sure you use the product before you buy it. for reason users tweaking synth parameters outside of real time, this might be fine. For us expert users who actually see the data coming from the SL will quickly notice that the all control signals are all running through various smoothing algorithms. (slewing controls upwards of 230 ms in some cases). this includes knobs, aftertouch, touchpad, joystick and faders This makes the box harder to play and may alter the functionality of some programs. I have extensively proven this.

The automapping feature is so intuitive and easy to use with Cubase, that it is actually saving me time. Having knobs and sliders usually means you spend as much time programming your CC and channels, but with the SL, you can get right to work.
Quality:
The joystick feels a little odd, and I would like to see a metal casing. Other than that, the keyboard feels great, and the knobs and sliders feel confident.
Value:
This is by no means a budget controller, but this keyboard exemplifies the maxim, you get what you pay for. And with this, you get nothing but programming bliss.
Ease of Use:
There is a learning curve, simply because this is the first midi controller that you can actually learn like a real instrument. With this keyboard, you can finally compare Cubase to a Triton or Oasys, simply because it makes life so much easier.
Overall:
This is currently the best controller on the market, hands down. If you have ever used your DAW and felt like it is just a bunch of random parts taped together, this is the product to make you feel like it is all finally coming together.

Feature:
I would have rated it a ten if it had come with one or two of the Insert inserts that are available for it. And I would have preferred that the write-on lables that ship with the unit be set up to allow neat typing off of a computer. There's no way I can write that small and end up with something legible.
Quality:
So far so good. It might deserve a ten but I haven't had it long enough to know for sure.
Value:
Definitely better than the 'old way' of wiring up the stuff. I can't imagine how I ever got along without one.
Desirability:
No sex appeal...but very practical.
Sound:
I rated it a ten because it doesn't appear to cause deterioration to the sound.
Overall:
It had better last as long as I plan to play music. I'm spoiled with it already!
